Marva Ferguson has a very personal Christmas tradition that happens every December 26. As an aging widow, the tradition means more to her now than it ever has. Her newest neighbor, nine-year-old Charlee, loves Christmas too. But her family has fallen on hard times and things get worse when Charlee becomes critically ill. Then, on December 12, Charlee makes a wonderful discovery. A mysterious note is delivered that promises twelve days of gifts and stories that will reveal the truth behind the beloved Christmas carol The Twelve Days of Christmas. As the days go by, the gifts hint at a possible lost lyric. Was there once a 13th day of Christmas? And if so, could its magic change or save a life? If Marva knows something about the letters from the Elves, she s not telling. However, you don t live as long as Marva Ferguson and not have a secret or two including a whole lot of faith in your apron pocket. Filled with laughter, tenderness, and hope, The 13th Day of Christmas invites us to see how an old Christmas favorite can turn into a true Christmas miracle.

ReplyDeleteI haven't read anything by this author. The 13th Day of Christmas sounds like it will be a real page turner. Thank you Mary for your review, however, it did sadden me to read that you have lost your family to cancer. Cancer is an ugly word, I know, I have struggled with it myself.
ReplyDeleteJohn, my husband and I over the past several Christmas's have watched people in restaurants who seem to be working only to keep food on the table or to buy gifts for their children, etc. We then give them a card with money in it and we ask them to give God the thanks and not us. We tell them a little about Jesus in each card. I remember this one older waitress fight back tears over the card and money we gave her. We listen and wait for God to direct us to the person He wants to Bless through us. It is never about us but about Him.
Blessings!
Judy

As I sturggled many years looking work when my kids were small, many people came to my aid, making sure I had food for the kids, and a present or 2 for them,Now as a return for the love that wasw showed to me,I took over my dad;s traditionof playing Santa,I travel many miles to privite parties, nursing homes, privite homes,I do not charge, cause I love bringing smiles to many, young and old,it has really blessed me,and I know alot of kids young and old,Thanks Mary for sharing this review,Id love to win a copy, would be a nice gift to someone.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great story. You will be surprised what a gift for a child at chrismas will do. I gave gifts to a struggling family last year and all the little boy wanted was drawing paper and modeling clay. When it was delivered he said it was the best gift ever. This sounds like a very heartwarming story.
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I always try to give Angels on Assignment a check at Christmas time. It is a place that provides food, gas money, etc. to needy people.
ReplyDeleteWould love to win this book.
Thanks for the opportunity,
What a wonderful thing to do for a child. It takes so little to make them happy. Wish we could all do more for those around us at Christmas time who has so much less then we do!
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like a wonderful book, Mary! My life has been touched by cancer also, my mother died from it, my brother has had 3 different types, and I've had some precancerous skin lesions.
ReplyDeleteOne thing that I decided to do a few years ago is to give less in the way of gifts to family and friends, and put that money toward warm hats, mittens, gloves, scarves, warm socks, long underwear, etc. to homeless shelters and an elementary school where the majority of children come from families below the poverty level. I receive more joy knowing that I'm helping a handful of people who need those items, than buying more than I need to for my children who all have the necessities in life. I'm an advocate for helping the needy in my own community.
I enjoy volunteering at rescue missions around Christmas! Nothing like seeing someone happy to have a warm meal!
ReplyDeleteI have loved reading these comments. When my first daughter was just 1 her name was drawn twice from a Montgomery Ward contest, so gave most of to a sister whose kids had even less than mine, Was happy that I could do that. Now for a number of years our church sponsors gifts for many children in the area around our church who can't afford gifts for the kids. My Sunday School always buys for one family. And, several of us ladies took gifts to shut-ins of our church. But, I would and should do more. I'd love to win this book. Maxie ( mac262@me.com )
ReplyDeleteHaven't read any of his books but this sounds like a great one!

I never heard of him or his books until now. I would love to win this.
ReplyDeleteI try to do something for a friend who doesn't have as much as I do........it is a good feeling to help someone else!
ReplyDeleteThis year I also plan on giving someone a "Christmas Jar" like the ones given in the book "Christmas Jars". I would encourage everyone to read Jason Wright's books!!! THEY'RE GREAT....... just like him!!!!!
I do a boy and girl shoebox for Operation Christmas Child. Also bring bags of dog food to the shelter.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful story this sounds like. When hubby had his health and we were able to, we volunteered at mission for the holidays. It was so rewarding! We are hoping that the time will come when he will be able to do more. For now we do the shoebox for the children.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,

Sounds like a great read. We always do a Samaritan's Purse Operation Christmas Child box (or 3). Some years we have bought gifts for children who would otherwise not have any or food for families... just really depends on what's going on around us and what we feel led by God to do.
