Waterbury Winter By Linda Henley

Barnaby Brown has had enough of freezing winters, insurmountable debt, a dead-end job, and his solitary life as a young widower with no one but his beloved parrot Popsicle. He yearns to move to California and reawaken his long-lost early life as an artist. But new troubles come in threes. His ancient car crashes into a snowbank. Popsicle escapes through a window carelessly left open.

A New York gallery owner offers to represent Barnaby’s paintings—but is he on the up-and-up? All of it serves to shock Barnaby into confronting how low he has sunk, and he vows—again and again—to change. He has a few obstacles, starting with his heavy drinking and long-term neglect of his ancestral home. As he takes steps toward a better life, he re-discovers the value of old friendships and latent talents seen in new light, and finds the courage to consider a second chance at love. Rejoining the mainstream of life presents several startling mysteries he must unravel, with a few mortifying but enlightening stumbles.

A heart-warming novel about ordinary people reclaiming their dormant potential, Waterbury Winter celebrates the restorative value of art and the joy to be found in keeping promises.

Becoming Herself By Maureen Reid

What if … you were told you won’t be accepted because you don’t sound like everyone else… you want more choices than your world offers… you love a man you can never have … you need to reconnect with the land you left behind? That is Margaret’s story. Becoming Herself is the tale of a woman’s road to self-discovery in the first half of the 20th century. It is as current as today’s headlines. On her first day in America, seven-year old Maggie Clancy is placed in an orphanage by her grieving widowed father. She is told that from now on she will be called Margaret. Maggie will no longer exist. She will have to forge her own path in this new world of upstate New York. Her lovely singing voice provides her the needed entry. In an era when she loses the corset and gains the right to vote, Margaret struggles with balancing the roles of wife and mother with her longing to do even more with her life. She’s a witness to the prejudices experienced by Irish immigrants and to Americans questioning the patriotism of their German-Americans neighbors during WWI. Despite that, she hopes and believes that man’s inhumanity to man will lessen when women make their voices heard. Margaret embraces the changes and challenges of a world that’s experiencing airplanes in the skies, radios in the parlor and women beginning to assert their independence inside and outside the home. Margaret yearns to find the Maggie who’s been lost by returning to Ireland, the land of her birth. In Becoming Herself, Margaret shares her dreams, conflicts, and never-to-be-told secrets. It is the story of a woman searching to become all she is capable of being.

It’s mayhem.

Ezra soon learns who to trust and who to hunt down. But as she falls deeper into the game, she starts to lose herself as the bodies pile up. The line blurs between what she’s always known to be right and wrong.

Love is By Kim Sorrelle

Engage with a love that transcends social experiments and leads to a radically transformed life

"Love is patient, love is kind, love is . . ." The words are so familiar they almost lack meaning, a Christianese version of "live, laugh, love." Even non-Christians are familiar with the Love Chapter of 1 Corinthians, read at weddings, painted on decorative signs, and preached regularly from the pulpit. But what happens when these verses are taken seriously? What would it take for someone to live out the Love Chapter as literally as possible?

That was the question Kim Sorrelle set out to answer during her yearlong experiment. Using 1 Corinthians 13 as a road map, she focused on one phrase at a time, seeking to understand its true meaning and how it could motivate every daily action. And she didn't just look at the best-known parts of the passage but also the ones we don't think too deeply about: love does not boast, does not dishonor others, doesn't keep a record of wrongs, and more.

In her attempts to live the Love Chapter to the letter, Kim journeyed all the way to Haiti, where she met people who both tested and displayed love to its limits. From irritating employees to sexist short-term missionaries to curse-wielding women to the profoundly kind nuns, her encounters are filled with rueful self-reflection and comical commentary, as well as a new understanding of the nuances and power of true love in action.

Kim's transformation into someone who truly loves like Jesus will challenge readers to think more deeply about how they can manifest love in their own lives and will reveal the power of Christlike devotion that is unwearied and humble, contented and forgiving. Above all, her exploration is an incredible encounter with the filling, strengthening love of God--a love that truly never fails.

Kim Sorrelle is the author of two books, Cry Until You Laugh,” about her journey through the cancer jungle and Love Is, a year-long experiment to discover the true meaning of love.

She is an entrepreneur, director of a humanitarian organization, and lover of all people.

Her kids and their spouses are entrepreneurs, a humanitarian organization director, NASA engineer, NASA administrator, MD/Ph.D., and a Funeral Director. She gives all of the credit of having birthed gainfully employed taxpayers to her late husband.

Kim thinks that her eleven grandkids are the bomb and will someday solve issues like social injustice, food insecurity, and sock eating dryers. Kim loves to travel anywhere and meet new people everywhere. And along the way, she is learning to live love.

Deadly Connection By Kathy Harris

Will they uncover the secrets between them before it becomes deadly?

From there, she watches in horror as her attacker grabs another woman and pushes her into a nearby car. Within seconds, the vehicle speeds away.

He races to the back of the building and finds a frightened young woman bent forward and gasping for breath.

Thrown together by uncanny circumstances and driven by the whys and what-ifs of secrets yet to be revealed, Hannah and Jake set out to find the connection between them before it becomes deadly.

I get so excited when a package with Harris' latest book comes. I don't plan anything for a few hours so that I can get a way. I start reading and read until the very last page.
What's even better is that I am nuts about books, but my second love is music, so this is the best of both worlds.

Christmas At Sugar Sand Inn By Leigh Duncan

Escape to Sugar Sand Beach with best friends Michelle, Reggie, Nina and Erin for a second chance at all life has to offer.

Welcome to Christmas at the Sugar Sand Inn! Michelle and her friends have replaced the welcome sign on the front gate with one that reads “Closed for the Holidays.” The four women deserve a little break after spending the summer working nonstop to convert the house Michelle inherited from her birth mother into an inn. The past three months they’ve definitely been thrilled—and maybe a little overwhelmed—by the influx of guests who have alternately charmed and confounded them. Now with a wedding in the works, it’s no wonder the four friends need some time to kick back, help themselves to a glass of the inn’s signature cocktail and enjoy the warm winter breezes that blow off the Gulf.

Of course, no holiday would be complete without a few problems. A tight housing market makes it difficult for Erin and her fiancĂ© to find a house to rent. Meanwhile Michelle, Reggie and Nina prepare a very special surprise for the newlyweds. Unexpected arrivals complicate matters, and soon every room of the “closed” inn is filled to overflowing. Despite the challenges, laughter rings throughout the halls, and good smells drift from the kitchen, where Chef Nina and her team whip up holiday treats and one very special wedding cake.

Join Nina, Michelle, Reggie and Erin as they enjoy the new lives they’ve built in Sugar Sand Beach, where fresh opportunities for life, love and happiness are as limitless as the blue Florida skies.

Crazy Like A Fox By Melinda Metz GIVEAWAY!

Return to the charming mountain town of Fox Crossing, Maine—where nature lovers are welcome, the locals are friendly, and a single glimpse of a legendary fox can change your life forever...

Most people think The Fox is just a folk tale, designed to lure tourists to their quiet little town on the Appalachian Trail. But kindergarten teacher Lillian Smith is hoping the stories of the white-earred, white-pawed vixen—who brings luck and love to those who see her—are all true. After a chance sighting of the fabled fox, Lillian hopes her hiker boyfriend Owen will finally propose. Instead, he publicly dumps her, claiming she’s not adventurous enough. Lillian’s determined to prove him wrong. But she sure could use some of that foxy magic to win him back...

Luckily, Lillian is not alone. She has her good friend Gavin, the local boot camp worker who agrees to help her reinvent herself—even though he thinks she’s fine the way she is. Then there are the townsfolk who also claim to have caught glimpses of The Fox: an offbeat musician with a downbeat career, a not-so-fortunate couple who’ve forgotten just how lucky they are, and a playwright whose life needs a second act. But if the fox legend is true, things always have a way of working out—for those crazy enough to keep believing...

Melinda Metz grew up in San Jose, California. People sometimes ask if she knows the way there. She kinda does, but she has an off-kilter sense of direction, so to be confident of arriving, it's better to consult some kind of navigational device.

Her mother tried to teach her to read in kindergarten, but Melinda had no interest. She also had no interest in learning to write her name. (FYI, when Melinda was in kindergarten it was all about finger-painting, play time, and naps.) Eventually, she mastered both and even majored in English at San Jose State University.

After college, Melinda moved to Manhattan to seek her fortune, which involved learning to identify fruits and vegetables while working at a grocery store,

making $2.73 working backstage for an off-off Broadway play (her part of the box-office profits), and editing books.

Melinda and the lovely and talented Laura J. Burns pretty much became unofficial writing partners when they were editors at the same company. They teamed up to brainstorm story ideas, and at some point their brains fused in some key places. Later they worked on the Roswell High book series, Laura developing and editing the series, Melinda writing.

That series led to Melinda and Laura, now an official writing team, writing two TV pilots, moving to L.A. to work on the Roswell TV show, and briefly living in Toronto while on the writing staff of 1-800-Missing. They both continue to write books, together and separately.

Laura and Melinda have a new book in the works, a young adult thriller that includes: adventure! heiroglyphics! globe-trotting! paranormal artifacts!

Melinda's first adult book, Talk to the Paw, is coming out in February 2018 from Kensington. It's a romance with a cat playing matchmaker. Everybody say awww.

Her six-book S.M.A.R.T.S. series is out now. The middle-grade mysteries focuses on the kids in a makerspace club, and includes lots of science facts. (Melinda minored in Biology. Weird, huh?)

Melinda has never regretted learning to read and write her name.

This is a fun read. I hope that you get a chance to pick up a copy.

A Scoundrel of Her Own By Stacy Reid

Lady Ophelia Darby exists in two worlds. In one, she is the impudent, willful daughter of a powerful marquess and darling of the ton. In the other, she moves through the underworld’s shadows as songstress Lady Starlight, protected only by the notoriously wealthy scoundrel Devlin Byrne. But when she stumbles upon her beloved father’s darkest secrets, the line between her two worlds quickly blurs. Now she needs the help of the one man a lady should never trust.

Devlin Byrne stands on the edge of London society, knowing he will never be accepted. No one else knows that his obscene wealth and ruthlessness aren’t without purpose. Or that his purpose has golden-brown eyes that shimmer with mischief, the palest of skin, and a lush mouth that beckons to be kissed, and deeply. But having Ophelia is only the beginning of Devlin’s plans.

It’s undeniable that Devlin Byrne is a dangerous temptation―but just as Ophelia begins to trust him, maybe even fall for him, she discovers she’s not the only one with secrets. And his would lead her down more than just the path of scandal…

Broken People By Rachel Thompson

Long before the #MeToo movement, Rachel Thompson started sharing what it was like to grow up and live with the constant trauma of childhood sexual abuse, sexual harassment, and other sexual crimes in her award-winning memoirs, Broken Pieces and Broken Places.

Broken People is the third book in this series, where she continues to explore, through hard-hitting essays and lyrical poetry, the difficulties and joys of navigating relationships, healing, and love in an environment not always conducive to survivors.

If you're a survivor or know one, you need this book.

I write what scares me. I tell uncomfortable truths.

I want other survivors of rape and sexual assault to know

they’re not alone.

I’ll be the voice.

I am the voice.

Healing is possible. Every survivor must find their own healing path.

This is mine.

Broken People is a book of courage, resilience, and overcoming challenges Rachel faced as a survivor. Through her three books Broken Pieces, Broken Places, and Broken People, Rachel has courageously shared her truth and the journey of her life. It’s not all rosy and pretty and that’s the beauty of these books. They represent the truth of a survivor, a mother, an empowered person who was made to believe she has no charge in her life but challenged that, and emerged on the other side. These books have not only allowed her to openly share her experiences, they also provide hope, guidance, and a way forward for girls and women who feel they have no hope left in them.

Dr. Shruti Kapoor, Founder, Sayfty Trust

This third book in her Broken series, Broken People is both heart-wrenching in its honesty, and hope-filled in its commitment to recovery. Through her beautiful, gently scribed work, Rachel shows the destruction that sexual abuse causes, and also the hope and strength that is conceived in the healing process. She speaks to you, the reader, like a warm friend who is by your side. For survivors, Rachel’s voice is that of a wise older sister, looking out for you and comforting you when you feel alone with all the carnage that sexual trauma can leave in its wake.

Rachel Thompson is the author of seven books: Broken People, just released in September 2021; Broken Places (2017 Journey Book Awards for Narrative Non- Fiction First in Category Winner and a 5-Star Readers Favorite Winner); the multi-award-winning and bestselling Broken Pieces and Broken Places; the multi-award-winning BadRedhead Media 30-Day Book Marketing Challenge, The BadRedhead Media SEO Guide for Authors, as well as two additional humor books, A Walk In The Snark and Mancode: Exposed.

She's also currently finishing up the next BadRedhead Media book, the 30-Day Twitter Challenge, and several other guides for writers.

Rachel founded BadRedhead Media in 2011, creating effective social media and book marketing campaigns for authors. Her articles appear regularly in The Huffington Post, IndieReader, FeminineCollective, BookMachine, BookWorks, and is a popular writer on several top publications on Medium.

Not just an advocate for sexual abuse survivors, Rachel is the creator and founder of the blog-sharing hashtag phenomenon #MondayBlogs, the weekly live Twitter chat #SexAbuseChat, (Tuesdays, 10 am pst), and #BookMarketingChat (Wednesdays 6 pm pst) to help writers learn how to market their work.

She hates walks in the rain, running out of coffee, and coconut. A single mom, Rachel lives in California (with her two kids and two cats) where she daydreams about Thor. And sleep.

My Thoughts...

This one is not for everyone but if you have suffered abuse or know someone that has this would be a useful tool.

It was an interesting read.
